Innovative Digital Mail-Delivery Platform Introduced in Kenya

The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) has partnered with Taz Technologies to introduce a new mobile platform to drive digital inclusion in the postal and courier service sector in the country.

Joe Mucheru, Cabinet Secretary ICT lauded the move saying, “PCK is on the right path in placing priorities in digital innovations as it adjusts to changing markets.”

M-Post or Posta Mkononi is a virtual post office that will enable users to receive mail and parcel notifications via their mobile phones after registration through a short code.

According to Twahir Mohammed of Taz Technologies, M-Post is not out to do away with the physical post office box but to link it to the virtual address, which is the user’s phone number.

M-Post will also give users the option of having their mail or parcels delivered to their preferred location using Posta Dispatch or EMS Service.

“Postal Administrations worldwide are embracing technology and Kenya has not been left behind. Customers are easily accessing all goods and services from their mobile phones,” Mucheru added.

“This innovation will greatly transform the way Kenyans communicate and transact business through the Post Office going forward as well as l propel the postal industry into greater heights.”

The platform which is still in the pilot stage has more than 20,000 registered users.
